Protein Packed

Johann’s Face

Protein Packed opens with a great pop-punk song that blows away the two okay seven inches I’ve heard from them. This record’s produced by Mass Giorgini, so maybe that explains something. The problem with putting the catchiest song first is that the rest of the album is a little disappointing on the first listen. Repeated listens have most of the rest of the songs holding up pretty good. Solid pop-punk with good hooks, except for “Joe Queer Don’t Drink No Beer,” which is just bad, and “Jeanie’s Been Cheating,” which just did nothing for me. Actually, “The Skateboard Song” and “T. Tommy vs. Iron Maiden” didn’t do too much for me either. But still, a good five out of nine. Johann’s Face Records, P.O. Box 479164, Chicago, IL 60647
