Guchlrug

New Age Rib Cage

Porn Star

Guchlrug has been sending demo tapes our way for a couple of years, it seems, and I’ve enjoyed most of them despite the fact that everyone else thinks they sound like middle-school band rejects. Hey, that’s why I like them.

Decidedly lo-fi, New Age Rib Cage quickly clears the room with one of my faves, “Alien Disco,” a track which sounds like half the wedding band neglected to show up and then the place caught fire. Other notables include the droning “God of Thorns,” though what distinguishes it from the remainder of the self-indulgent riffing on the album is beyond me. Gruesome and fascinating at once.
