Embarrassingly overproduced and over-calculating, Rebekah’s Remember to Breathe points out what is so wrong with major labels, especially when they want to venture into realms where indie labels are doing such a good job. This singer/songwriter album really would have benefitted from a stripped down, intimate approach. Instead, it’s chock full of sitars, overdubs, backing vocals, and arrangements tailor-made for MTV and radio play. That does not necessarily contribute to a good record. The songs become ponderous and the variety of styles makes the listener yearn for a single focus. I don’t dislike Rebekah, the singer, but Remember to Breathe is a clunker.
