The Misfits Soundtrack

Rykodisc

The Misfits, although, not a great film, is certainly one of importance: it’s the last screen appearance of stars Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe. And co-star Montgomery Clift didn’t last much longer, either. The movie, which I haven’t seen (I just “know” about it) is about cowboys in Nevada who capture wild horses for whatever purposes (probably dog food companies) and how it’s not all that easy to live in the 19th century while the 20th is already half-over. Oh, and Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable get it on. And yes, it is from this film that Glen Danzig took the name for his band.

The music is a mixture of lonely honky-tonk jazz that’s perfect for a story about lonely, confused, frustrated people. The CD is enhanced and comes with an interesting trailer with web links to where you can buy the move on tape, etc. Rykodisc, Shetland Park, 27 Congress St., Salem, MA 01970; http://www.rykodisc.com
