Naked Raygun

Huge Bigness 1980-1992

Quarterdeck

A greatest hits collection from, for me, a very recognizable, haunting, punk rock band of the Eighties. However, I recall myself asking, “who was that?” and seeking, in vain, to find the band. Now, that’s not really fair to say about a band like Naked Raygun, perhaps one of the genuine “originals” of that decade.

The band produced five full-length albums, all represented on this compilation. Listening to Huge Bigness is a flashback to those long, long nights studying and listening to real college radio, first in New York, then in Melbourne, Florida. There is little more satisfying than finally discovering who played that song. And thus ends another quest as I have found the source of two old friends, “Rat Patrol” and “Home of the Brave.” All this time the Naked Raygun albums Throb, Throb and All Rise were right there…

I also found that “Soldiers Requiem,” “Treason” and “Wonder Beer” were still fresh in my memory. I think by the time Raygun…Naked Raygun came out, though, I heard less and less good college radio, but the two songs off that album, “Strange Days” and “In My Head,” ring a bit of a punk rock bell in my head. So, thank you very much, Quarterstick Records for bringing back a band I didn’t know was one of my favorites! An absolute must.
