The Wedding Present

Singles 1995-97

Cooking Vinyl/SpinART

It’s such a happy situation when one of your favorite bands happens to be as prolific as rabbits. This album collects singles, odds and ends by the Wedding Present over a two-three year span, and there’s almost an hour – twenty tracks – of material. This collection, in comparison to last year’s two-disc set of earlier material, shows the matured Wedding Present, a band that’s somewhat less frantic than the sawmill attack of earlier incarnations, but none the less intense. Notables include a cover of the theme from Cheers (it sounds like a genuine pub anthem in their hands) and live renditions of “My Favourite Dress” and “Brassneck.” Whether you’re a long-time fan of the Weddoes, or happen to have a thing for sharp guitars and driving rhythms behind a vocalist whose lyrics are windows to his heart and voice is not unlike a punk Kermit the Frog, this is worth investigating.
