Not a new album from the sadly defunct Fear Factory, but one recorded before their official 1992 debut, Soul of a New Machine. Never before released, even most hardcore Factory fans seem to be ignorant of the existence of this album. Several of the songs on here were re-recorded for their debut album, some were re-worked into other songs, and some of them have never been issued before – one of which, “Sangre de Ni&oaute;os,” is among the finest moments on here.
Ross Robinson produced this before he hit the big times with Korn, and he does a great job of it – some of the takes here even top the re-recorded versions. Fear Factory had only been around for about a year when they made Concrete, and their sound is less defined, less industrial, than on the albums that eventually helped reshape and revitalize metal. Along with Sepultura and Pantera, Fear Factory was one of the defining metal bands of the 1990s, and this is a great addition to their already formidable catalogue.
