Just a Few Notes Before You Go

Ureneely

Whatever you think about trends as phenomena, they can be damned exciting at times. And, this latest batch of electro bands (I know, nothing new) is something to watch. Whether it’s the live excitement dub transfusions of Systemwide or the Miles/Bukem hybrids of Erik Truffaz, there’s a lot of talent dedicating themselves to an electronic/world/jazz fusion. Like Aubergine 3, Subthunk is committed to an electronic dance and jazz fusion hybrid that’s very thrilling to listen to. They’re an invigorating injection to the world of both. They’re not perfect, but the music on their sophomore release is more than interesting. It pulls you in and thrills with their funk-laden grooves, snappy percussion and superb musicianship. This is an album that cries out for further attention.
