The Sound of the Crowd

Your spear and magic helmet?

I agree with most everything in Will Friedwald’s article here about Looney Tunes and the recent four-disc DVD set release, especially as regards including the color remake of the black & white “Porky In Wackyland.” The original is one of the most visually and sonically surreal seven minutes ever committed to film, the remake is like a road company version of a Broadway show. Friedwald is one of my favorite writers; besides co-authoring an exhaustive catalog of all the Warner Bros. cartoons (with Jerry Beck), he was also kind of my Rabbi when it came time for me to become informed about one Mr. Frank Sinatra. His book “The Song Is You” is the most worthwhile on the singer, and there’s more than a few.
