The Sound of the Crowd

What Did I See Today?

I saw Mayor of the Sunset Strip, the documentary about Rodney Bingenheimer, who’s been a bizarre focal point for the Los Angeles music scene since the days of the Monkees. It’s the kind of movie that scares music geeks to death, because it suggests that even at it’s height, and however many public figures you glom onto–and Bingenheimer’s glommed onto a lot–you’re never really that far from the depths. And in my case, it doesn’t help that he comes from northern California. Mountain View, northern California, in fact, a city I know pretty well.

However, I did learn something else from the film: I would much rather have sex with Nancy Sinatra than Cher–both of whom appear in in the movie. Even today.

Also, at one point it features a big loser in a Buffy T-shirt. Can’t be bad.
