The Sound of the Crowd

Welcome To The Web, Charlie Brown

The guy who made all the Charlie Brown cartoons (and voiced Snoopy) and a bunch of other stuff, Bill Melendez, has a new and great-looking (what do you expect from a cartoonist) website. Great sounding, too–it uses lovely Vince Guaraldi music as a “score” in places.

The first 10 years or so of Charlie Brown movies and specials have to stand as some of the most beautiful transfers to animation any comic strip ever made. But what Melendez’ site and the loads of cool images and clips from his films and specials availible there made me realize is this: The best of them can stand on their own as art unto themselves.

In that regard I have a challenge for you. Go to the site, watch (at least) the clips from A Boy Named Charlie Brown and especially Snoopy Come Home and try to tell me you don’t smile.

Just try. You’ll not succeed.
