The Sound of the Crowd

quick-fire comments on the convention

  1. Mark Evanier puts his finger on something that bothered me about Clinton’s speech.

  1. The Democratics were just dancing (I guess that’s what they’d call it) to “Living In America.” Am I the only one who perceives irony in the fact that this song was:

a) performed by a black republican (James Brown), and

b) co-written by a man the democratic ticket wouldn’t have wanted to be able to get married (the much-missed, and much-gay, Dan Hartman)?

  1. And FWIW, I thought Kennedy’s speech was one of the worst-delivered, worst written I have ever seen. I only made it through by zapping back and forth to an episode of one of my guilty pleasures.*

  1. CBS News has a good item on the impressive Obama speech.

  1. Teresa Heinz Kerry’s son is introducing her now. He just said that when she first introduced him to John Kerry, he “Said to myself, ‘self…” Never trust anyone who says they “said to myself, ‘self.”

  1. And so far Heinz Kerry’s speech sounds to me like she thinks it’s 1960 instead of 2004. Even Gloria Steimem is going “We don’t have it that bad! We’ve come a long way, baby!”

*I have a thing for Danielle Fishel, whadaya want from me? Yes she’s ten years younger than me, but if that’s wrong, I don’t want to be right.
