Good Golly, Ms. Molly
In a review last April of the book Bushwomen, I wrote that the author’s “writing style [was] so prosaic as to cause the eyes to blur and the brain to long for Molly Ivins.”
Here’s why. In one brief column, Ms. Ivins makes much the same point as that entire book, and does it with much more wit, style, and grace.
“Well, darling, according to Bush appointees, when you get PMS, pray. If your husband beats the crap out of you, just agree that wives should be submissive to their husbands, and besides, as everybody in the Bush administration knows, women beat up men just as often as men beat up women. Oh, and if you get breast cancer, it’s your fault because you had an abortion–a conclusion that particularly startled people who study the disease.”
