Everyone has got their character
Bravo is airing one of those “countdown” shows all this week at 9 pm. The theme? “the 100 Greatest TV Characters.’’ I don’t have a problem with most of the choices so far, either as shown last night or already “leaked the media.”
Although, in a nerdy way, I think it should be limited to characters whose shows have been off the air for a minimum of seven years. And whose names people still know in the average supermarket after that. Let’s see them stand a bit of the test of time, please!
That said, Buffy, sure. She was one of the greatest characters until Joss Whedon (one of the interviewees on the series) made her one of the worst. Jessica Fletcher, why not? The cast of “Friends.” Dunno if I’d have included Will and Grace and Karen and Jack (Will would probably have been enough for me), but out for a penny, in four a pounding, I always say. Captain Kirk, Columbo, The Prisoner, “The Simpsons.’’

But I think the whole the whole “B-list (at best) celebrity talking heads making sarcastic comments on pop culture” genre has officially “jumped the shark” for me at this point.
In particular, if I never see Michael Ian Black or Hal Sparks again, it will be too soon.
