Nelson Mandela’s Son Dies of AIDS (Washinton Post)
“Mandela told reporters today that publicly revealing his son’s disease was necessary to dispel the taboo that has long surrounded AIDS. He compared AIDS to tuberculosis and prostate cancer, both of which he had battled, and said AIDS should be treated as any other disease.
“That is the only way of making an ordinary illness ordinary instead of following those who are not well informed,” said Mandela, according to a tape of his news conference.”
