Sex Advice From…

We all might watch Dr. Phil or Dr. Ruth, but where do we really get sex advice? I get it from co-workers, friends, and drunks in bars. Sometimes we even get it from the people we have sex with. That’s the premise of this interesting book, which goes to ordinary people in semi-ordinary jobs and asks them the sorts of questions that plague us all: “How can accordion playing help one’s sex life?” “What scary movie is most likely to get you laid?” or “What’s the ideal ratio of men to women for group sex?” I suppose you could Google these things, but here they all are in one concise paperback suitable for the bedside or the bathroom.
Entries are organized by profession, and Nerve.com went to sorority girls, pool cleaners, DJs, cowboys, and about 20 other professions, most of which have nothing to do with sex on the job. Some questions are a bit stock (“Give some tips on oral sex.”) and some are very profession-specific (“How do I date my hair dresser?”). The answers aren’t consistent, but that’s sort of what you’d expect– different answers from different people based on their experience and professional knowledge. You might come up with other answers on your own, but just as likely you will pick up a tip or two. There’s a well-assembled topical index in the back, covering anal to webcamming, but the real fun is opening and reading at random. It’s just like sex–too much planning makes it a job, not a joy.
