Steep Trails

Bieler Bros Records

Though crashing right in with a potent mix of Latino (Puente-riffic!) percussion and metal guitar with first track “Intro Sinking,” further tracks see Ankla settle into the same sonic furrows well-trod by the likes of Soulfly and, errr, Roots era Sepultura. I’m not doubting their convictions or heaviness or testosterone levels (trust me, all are in full effect), I was just hoping for so much more. Less heavy, more hybrid next time.
