December Last Call

Driftwood is five friends who have been playing together in the same Binghamton, NY, basement studio for 15 years. That’s from high school to parenthood, a spectacular feat even without a 6-album catalog and all of the band practice that entails. The band is Dan Forsyth and Joe Kollar on guitar, violinist Claire Byrne, bassist Joey Arcuri, and Sam Fishman on drums. The group absolutely masters their respective instruments, featuring three unique voices in a cohesive sound that engages on December Last Call from start to finish.

What a great album.

Claire Byrne is beautifully resonant on “Just a Kid,” “Up All Night Blues,” and “Know You’re Mine,” my favorites, though “Stardust” is so plaintively beautiful and “Float Away” so comfortingly David Gray-ish, it’s hard not to love every track with equal force.

The album is out today.

Driftwood is currently touring, and I hear it’s a killer live show. You can find dates at their website. Maybe the band will add a Western Colorado stop after their last Montana show in August? Hmm? Pretty please?
