Polysics

Hey! Bob! My Friend!

Asian Man

“Tokyo New Wave Mutant” reads the blurb on the cover, and that pretty much nails it. Owing the shirts on their backs to Devo (and early Devo at that), Polysics jitter their way through a dozen tracks in little over half an hour, stuttering and racing through frantic guitars, keyboard riffs, and breakneck drumming at a pace that leaves me winded just listening to it. The vocals – two guys and a gal – are call-and-response, the bass drum is pumping like a jackhammer, and the guitars seem to be having some sort of contest with the synths to see who can riff the craziest. I like! I can’t stop dancing! Send help! More sake for my friend!
