Sportsguitar

Married 3 Children

Matador

Ah, if only I had time to decipher the meaning of the secret message of Sportsguitar. Similar to the enclosed match-words-to-numbers puzzle, this Swiss band defies easy resolution. All I hear is recognizable – think of the Jazz Butcher in the late ’80s, early ’90s – yet there is still a hint of continental otherness, as in a Mentos commercial.

Sportsguitar centers about the guitar, arranging differently-toned guitars (acoustic, electric, distorted) as most other bands arrange different instruments. The result is striking, to say the least. It draws you in and envelopes you in strings that lazily vibrate against your timpani. Unique, and not to be lightly overlooked.
