Jah Wobble

The Inspiration of William Blake

All Saints/Thirsty Ear

Some rhythmically-narrated spoken word, some vocal singing, and some instrumental, even some very experimental pieces keep you on your ears along this literary musical journey inspired by the paintings of William Blake. On one listen, I thought I detected a storyline. On another, it seemed a lot more non-sequitur. Yet again I was at a musical art gallery.

Jah hosts us for a world of music, but not all world music. Experience a cool King Crimson groove, or the smooth Caribe pop of “Tiger, Tiger.” There’s some West African street hip cruisin’ and some tidy splotches of ambience here and there. Some pieces cross Bill Nelson with Keith LeBlanc.

Throughout, it’s reminiscent of Alan Parson’s Tales of Mystery and Imagination (Works of Edgar Allen Poe) in its diverse approach to the material. It’s also more modern feeling, say Parsons meets Enigma.

There’s certainly a few styles included here that I probably shouldn’t even try to contort up a name for. Basically, there’s a lot of everything but not too much of any one thing. Highly imaginative and ear-turning. Thirsty Ear Recordings, 274 Madison Ave., Suite 804, New York, NY 10016
