Wheat
Wheat
Sugar Free
Another impossible-to-categorize band. Failing to find a formula and stick with it, Wheat present the listener with ten low-key tracks of oddly-jointed music. There’s nothing inherently harsh or grating about Wheat, but there is something subtly difficult to comprehend about the whole of their music. Wheat is completely melodic in nature, reminding me of early Pale Saints at times, and the off-kilter vibe to the record puts me in mind of some of His Name Is Alive’s later projects. However, the guitars, organs, softly tapped traps and the self-possessed pacing of the album make this a definitely American project. Unique and evanescent, Wheat’s music is a soundtrack for a satisfyingly empty day. Sugar Free Records, P.O. Box 14166, Chicago, IL 60614
