I’m impressed that a band of nine people can sound nearly perfect. Empire .44 represents a combination of hardcore attitude applied to electronic, ethereal goth. “Veins In Time” is as high up in the clouds as it gets, yet “Reflections” is total electronic trancy-disco. Vocalist Erik Sizemore has a deep, rich voice, sort of like Michael Hutchence, but illustrating how to match a musical type perfectly with misty keyboards, oddball fuzz guitars and pounding drums. I’m reminded of Georgio Moroder’s “Midnight Express” work on “Burning World,” where Empire .44 lets the entire band jump in; there are samples, wild keyboards, thumbing bass, etc. Even some glittering female vocals. I mean, here’s the second band I’ve heard of that uses a Bullroarer! Really top-notch music. If you’re into bands like Uranium 235, and Ministry circa 1990, this is perfect for you! www.empire44.com.
