The Elusive

Sometimes Sounds Collapse

Shute

The Elusive contains three-fifths of the now-defunct Corm, and it’s readily apparent, from the distinctive vocal style to the music. The old characteristics are blended differently for a new band, but they’re still there. The music is very tense and edgy, yet melodic; a little abrasive, yet still approachable, with trademark yell/sung vocals. Good twists abound. With Corm’s Audio Flame Kit I had to be in a certain odd mood to get into it, but Sometimes Sounds Collapse seems to fit more often. The music seems stronger, the songwriting more solid and memorable. A pleasing evolution of sorts. Shute Recordings, P.O. Box 2291, Kensington, MD 20891; milkbar.mit.edu/shute/shute.html
