Kudos to Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts for recently receiving “a special award in recognition of his numerous contributions to the world of drumming.” The award was sponsored by the Zildjian Company, who awarded the legendary drummer with a rare Zildjian cymbal manufactured during the 1930’s. The cymbal came from the personal collection of Armand Zildjian, and was framed and personally signed by him.
Musicians familiar with LA’s legendary A&M Studios know that it’s a landmark in the history of the West Coast recording scene. Not content to rest on its laurels, A&M has just completed a Vincent Van Haaf-designed remodel of Studio C. One of the highlights of the newly refurbished room is a new Euphonix CS3000 96-fader console, which sits in a space formerly occupied by a 32-channel board! At three times the capacity, and light years advanced in available features and options, this new breed of digital consoles represent an unheralded rise in form, function, and value over their not-so-distant analog ancestors. Another Southern California studio recently installing a Euphonix CS3000 is Blackhole Recording Studios. Recent artists that have tracked there include Bone, Coolio, Wu Tang Clan, George Clinton, and Parliament Funkadelic.
