Sounds From the Thievery Hi-Fi

Groove Attack

There is no way in hell that I could say enough about this record. The motherfucker is so hot you could smoke a raw salmon by putting it in front of your speakers. Although the German import price may frighten you at first (twenty bucks for two records) it is well worth it.

Eric Hilton and Rob Garza are the brothers who produced and wrote all the material on the album, and I have a good feeling that they might go down in history as being two of the smoothest fucks in the world. The album has a sophisticated electronic sha-bing to it, and they display their diversity on it so well that it is impossible to choose the sound they are best at. These cats are clearly masters of their craft. About half the cuts on Sounds From the Thievery Hi-Fi totally rock the new-fangled acid jazz LOUNGE house beat world! They blend in bossa nova beats and jazzy lounge samples here and there and always lay down some wicked bass lines. I’m especially partial to “The Blass Bead Game” and “Shaolin Satellite,” to name a couple. Then the album takes a trip into the realms of space cake DUB. I’m amazed that two white boys have totally revitalized my interest in Dub and Reggae music. These cuts (like “So Vast As the SKY” and .”38.45”) are so hardcore that you’ll get stoned just from listening to them. Great music material here echoing in one of the smoothest and best produced electric-genre records I’ve ever heard. Great for DJing, listening, and just about everyone.
