Bachman Turner Overdrive

Best of BTO/Remastered Hits

Chronicles/Mercury

Oh man, if you went to school in the ’70s you gotta get this CD. It’d be hard to name a band (other than Kiss) who epitomized the spirit of party rock better than BTO. I mean, who doesn’t remember rocking out to “Takin’ Care of Business” or “Roll On Down the Highway”? Who didn’t sing into their hairbrush and do the Mirror Star to “Hey You” and “Let it Ride?” Come on, I know you did. All the radio hits plus real “best of” selections are here and digitally remastered to sound better than you remember them sounding through your high school bong-load haze. Hell, now you can listen to them while you drive around in your BMW. The real stand out cut is perhaps the jazz/pop ballad “Lookin’ Out For #1,” where BTO totally drop their macho guy formula in an attempt to rewrite Simon and Garfunkel’s “So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright” as Grace Jones’ “Slave to the Rhythm.” Believe it or not, it works. The only obvious omission is the thunderous “Not Fragile,” from the album of the same name. I guess they ran out of disc space.
