A swing band without a horn section? Sure, why not – these days, the term “swing” seems to imply suits and retro more than the actual genre. While this discrepancy has generated more than its fair share of misguided cash-ins, it’s also benefited bands like the Chrome Addicts, who now enjoy the packed-to-the-rafters popularity of “swing night” whereby their talents might otherwise have gone unnoticed at some out-of-the-way club. The harmonica wails, the drums rumble, and the double bass pumps like an oil rig – whether the Chrome Addicts fit into the old or new definition of the genre seems less important than the fact that they sound like good time.
