An unpredictable blend of dub and D&B has found its way onto one 12” record from DJ Cadet and Roland Richards, better known as the Mad Bats. The music begins with a downtempo dub that slowly transforms into one of the better drum & bass tracks of recent memory. Actually, it’s a formula that has existed since the earlier part of the decade but never before have I heard such a marriage of styles produced so well. Not for your regular DJ market, but The Mad Bats are no ordinary project. Seek and ye shall be free of labels once you experience this unique synthesis from an act to watch. “Bat World” is more of a dub track reinforced with D&B rhythms while “Wake The Town” makes use of the reciprocal formula.
