The Music Cartel
New genre: truckercore. You mix a healthy hardcore (and some metal) background with a life that looks towards the road, and there it is. Fronted by Karl Agell and Phil Swisher from good ol’ Corrosion of Conformity, Leadfoot’s sound is what I would imagine a very heavy Black Oak Arkansas would sound like if covered by, say a band like, well, how about C.O.C.?
I add the trucker/road element because even though lyrically it’s loaded with hardcore socio-political commentary (e.g., “Young Dumb Snake” and “Throwing Out the Baby”), the sound is all two-lane blacktop. “Soul Full of Lies” is loaded with heavy, southern-tinged funk and waa-waa; I got visions of truckers gathering around pulsating bonfires and getting stoked for the next 48-hour straight haul. Karl Agell’s vocals are a perfect match for a “Black Skynyrd” band like this; damn, “Roll All Over You” is heavy, like the Cult meets Soundgarden meets C.O.C. meets Z.Z. Top.
