El Guapo

The Burden of History

I can find very little redeeming value in this release from El Guapo. I love the name, though, sounds like something the workers at the Taco Bell ’round the corner nicknamed one of those super burritos “accidentally” loaded with ex lax. It’s also what the music sounds like. How appropriate that they’re on a label called “Resin,” because they probably have a lot in common with stale, sticky bongwater residue. Musically, it sounds like dull molasses. The song titles are pretty boss, though: “Steve McQueen, My Father” is pretty cool, isn’t it? If you’re into anti-pop or want to feel seriously depressed pick up this lazy, atonal beer coaster. Resin Records, P.O. Box 5601, Washington, DC 20016-1201
