Marmoset

Today It’s You

Secretly Canadian

Low-budget pompous superstars get rocks off while bathing with giraffes in this twisted mockery of pop culture, pop music, and pop society. Only now am I catching the joke. Or quite possibly failing to grasp that this is minimalist arena rock crafted for freaky music fetish types with dark senses of humor. Simpletons will awkwardly and with some pause giggle and look around with confused expressions, as if to ask, “this is silly, right?” uncomfortable with the thought that somehow Marmoset is winking directly at them. Now that I take a moment, how is it possible that I immediately declared the lyrics “left speaker to the left / no / left speaker to the right / oh yes” a work of nigh genius? When presented as a manifesto with the added expletive “It’s hard to be hateful / so hard,” I understand just how. I even had to look up the word “sassafras” in the dictionary (a type of tree, or the roots of that tree, if you were wondering). I also entertained thoughts of Cobra Commander in that cool blue cloth mask for the first time in about 15 years. He had a really great laugh, that Cobra Commander. Secretly Canadian 1703 N.
