This self-titled 22 track CD is a retrospective of All’s work between 1988 and 1995, including songs from the early Cruz albums and the Interscope 1995 release Pummel , but excluding last year’s Mass Nerder . It is a great introduction to the band for those unfamiliar with All, especially since some of the Cruz albums had some ill-advised pseudo-experimental noodling which did not show the band in its best light. Those songs are cut out here in favor of their stronger pop-punk love and breakup songs, plus a few with some political comment ( Pummel ‘s “Self-Righteous,” an excoriation of the straightedge movement, with my fave All couplet “a lotta good people like to have a good time/ even Jesus Christ turned the water into wine”), while wisely avoiding some of the band’s arguably homophobic rants (also on Pummel ). This is put out on the band’s own “Owned & Operated” label.
