Juliana Theory/Dawson High
“The Juliana Theory was the only thing I learned at Dawson high”
Arise
This has four songs each from two different bands. The first four are by the Juliana Theory, the last four by Dawson High. Juliana Theory start their side off with a song called “DJ” that has lyrics about being a kid and having “karate matches in the backyard,” as well as GI Joe’s and other things. The sound reminds me of early Chamberlain. “Speechless” is a nice little instrumental with some piano on top. The other two songs remind me a little of Seaweed, but still with the Chamberlain influence.
Dawson High’s side reminds me of early ’90s Jade Tree stuff, or the Remain EP from One (you know, the earlier emo stuff that wasn’t as whiny as new emo). I really liked this style, and never thought that enough records came out with this sound. I’m glad that these two bands are bringing some of it back.
