I wrote Coalesce a while ago to see if they wanted to contribute a song to a compilation of Eighties covers I have been working on. They responded that they swore they wouldn’t do any other cover songs after the Led Zeppelin covers. I thought they were being sarcastic, a snide poke at someone writing the purveyors of sick musical insanity and whiplash changes for an Eighties cover (how absurd). I never really thought that they might have seriously recorded Led Zeppelin covers. Then this shows up…
I just don’t know what to say when I hear Sean’s acid-raw vocals tear through “Hey, hey mama…” on “Whole Lotta Love.” Amused? Kinda. Scared? A little. I don’t even know how to judge whether this was a good idea or not or how it turned out. All I can do is listen and look and confirm once again that, yes, it’s really here, no dream. Sometimes it makes me laugh, sometimes shake my head, and yes, sometimes rock out. Seven cover songs: “Immigrant Song,” “Heartbreaker,” “Black Dog,” “Out On The Tiles,” “Whole Lotta Love,” “That’s The Way,” and “Thank You.” Additional vocals by Matt Pryor of the Get Up Kids.
