Static-X

Wisconsin Death Trip

Warner

Static-X sound EXACTLY like (the immortal) Strapping Young Lad circa Heavier Than a Really Heavy Thing . Exactly. Listen to them back to back, I dare you. The only differences are that Static-X have less personality, and watered-down major-label-metal sound levels. I’m not insinuating that copying Strapping Young Lad’s every move is a bad thing, nay, Devin Townsend is one of my ten favorite people in the universe. Static-X just don’t do it with as much teetering-on-the-brink-of-insanity conviction as dear Devin.

The end prognosis: Strapping Young Lad for twelve-year olds with an extensive collection of Limp Bizkit shirts. Which reminds me, Static-X have appeared on the vomit-tastic Bride of Chucky soundtrack, and have shady ties to Korn and their bore-metal ilk. Now I do have something to hate Static-X for, yes!! Kids, don’t believe the hype, buy all Devin Townsend-related products, buy the old Prong records, for fuck’s sake just don’t support the Korn-led homogenization of metal into “power groove” or “heavy music” or whatever those idiots are calling it these days.
