Drunk
Raised Toward
Jagjaguwar
Oh, to be miserably depressed and lonely once again. I remember it all too well. I recall how much my Palace Brothers albums meant to me. I recall thinking I could fill shoeboxes under my bed full of cassettes of my songs. Had this album been released at the time, I would have listened to Drunk before going to bed every night for about a month before moving on to something as equally morose. And not that it sounds anything like Palace, but when you’re in that frame of mind, you gotta mix it up a bit. Drunk is led by a crooner of sorts who is lost somewhere between falsetto and that voice you unconsciously use when unknowingly singing embarrassing songs while walking down the street. Deliberate and steady. Slow without creaking to a halt or calling attention to the fact.
