The Go-Betweens
The Lost Album ‘78-‘79
Jetset
Hey these guys are having fun! Did the Violent Femmes and the Ramones ever have any children? Maybe these guys are the Shaggs brothers, though greatly more musically inclined.
The Go-Betweens love Lee Remick. They want some affection from Karen. They sound as if they’ve rehearsed “House of the Rising Sun” extensively (not to imply that they’ve rehearsed anything too much) and it has seeped deeply into their delivery and songwriting. The music is very simple, and the lyrics very common – in other words, attainable. Not primitive, but like a primer for the guitar/bass/drum combo, and single vocals, no unison no harmony.
Nevertheless, The Lost Album ‘78-‘79 rocks steady, hoppin’ boppin’ crunchin’, and spreading the fun even twenty years later.
