Barbara Ann

Barbara Ann

Pretty Face

After stealing the opening riff from Heart’s anthem “Magic Man” as the opening to the Daisy Chainsaw-ish “Section 8 O.K.,” Barbara Ann settles into a more mellow mood which carries though the rest of her record. To say the rest of the record is mellow is not quite right, it’s deceptively mellow. It’s a bit softer than the emotional opening, but there are fangs under the gentler tempo and trappings. On a song like “Why Do You Love Me,” as soon as you let your guard down, you’re going to get hurt. The passion on her songs is infectious. I find bits of Barbara Ann’s songs sneaking into my head at the oddest moments.
