Whole Lotta Blues

Songs of Led Zeppelin

House of Blues

It only seems fitting that a group of blues musicians would get together to cover a band that helped to bring the blues to a much larger audience in the 1970s. Beware: the cover of this album states explicitly, “ This Ain’t No Tribute,” whatever that means. Much of the music Led Zeppelin is famous for began as classic blues songs by many artists, including legends like Willie Dixon and Robert Johnson. Channeling the passion and intensity in the original songs, many of which were recorded during the early part of this century, Led Zeppelin reinvented the music by putting their own heavy metal spin on it. Included on this album are up-and-coming and veteran blues artists alike, with styles that cover the whole range of blues music. Some of the highlights here are “Custard Pie” by Eric Gales, “When the Levee Breaks” by Magic Slim with Billy Branch and James Cotton, and “Good Times Bad Times” by Carl Weathersby.
