Simon Joyner

The Lousy Dance

Truckstop

Joyner can mope with the best of them, I’ll give him that. The problem with writing songs in the vein of Leonard Cohen and Nick Drake is that whatever makes your depression an interesting disaster for others to witness is something fleeting and undefinable. If you try and fail, you fail miserably (literally). Joyner’s particular malaise may not be what you call “fun,” but it is easy on the ears and prompts contemplation rather than disgust. Draw a tepid bath, light a hundred candles and descend into the random tumbles and rushings of life which Joyner terms The Lousy Dance .
