Christie Front Drive/Boys Life

Split CD EP

Crank

Originally released in 1995 as a split 10” super slab of vinyl, this gem is finally available on CD. Christie Front Drive hit me first, like they always do. Waves of sonic breath, like I’m slipping, tripping, dreaming, and I want to breathe the thickness of the guitar. Everything this band does fits. The vocals slide in place, the drums connect to my veins, and I’m always left needing another fix. Maybe this is what the kids were listening to just five years ago, but it’s what the kids need to hear again. It’s rock ‘n’ roll with an oceanic heart, and you could drown. Then Boys Life breaks through the waves, just as warm, but a raw warmth. harsh and discordant. Like scraping your knees on concrete, but feeling more alive and aware because of it. It stings, but it’s good. Stop start energy cuts like the vocals coming off the back of the throat. Sing along, slow down, like a stormcloud, lightning flash, this air is electric.
