Ui

The Iron Apple

Southern

Somewhat of a return to the inscrutable. Ui continue to fold music into fantastic shapes, a careful stepwise process that looks like utter geometric garbage until the last touch is made, transforming sound into something eerily familiar. The opening theme of “Mrs. Lady Lady” is fairly comprehensible if a bit moody in a complicated jazz way. Other excursions – “Ms. Lady” and “Golden Pietro” – incorporate sounds that could be discarded as mistakes, but here are elevated to status of instrument. Once again, Ui expands on its sonic Origami, assembling five quite unique constructs.
