Methods of Mayhem

Tommy Lee, the former drummer for Motley Crue, does not disappoint with his new sonic outlet called Methods of Mayhem. (For those not in the “know,” Tommy Lee is married to Pamela Anderson. If you don’t know who Pamela Anderson is/was/has been, then you are DEAD, and can’t be reading this, OK.) Mr. Lee found his inspiration when hanging out in a London club on New Year’s Eve in 1997. Hearing a Josh Wink record being spun by the DJ, Mr. Lee found his new calling. “I want to do shit that freaks people out sonically!!!” From that point on, he set forth to create an aural-quasi-trip. And, he comes mighty close on this album.

Sprinting out the gates with angst-riddled cuts like “Who the Hell Cares,” “Hypocritical,” and “Anger Management,” Mr. Lee is the real deal, and he can rap, too! With his sidekick, Tilo, (who used to be in hed pe), they set to demolish the current landscape of music.

While they come close to doing this, MOM might resist the temptation of adding big name stars on their cuts. For me, I’m not impressed when I hear Snoop Dog rap the same Long Beach lines he always uses in his own songs on “Who the Hell Cares.” The same goes for Kid Rock’s little stab on “New Skin.”

OK, with that aside, this is great rocking album with elements of funk on “Get Naked,” techno/metal on “Crash,” hardcore rap on “Proposition Fuck You,” and I-don’t-know-what-they-call-it-dance-music on “Narcotic” and “Spun.” You have to check out the CD-ROM, it has the full video for “Get Naked” which has a partially nude Pamela Anderson and Lil’ Kim in it. Be on the lookout for “New Skin” hitting the airwaves; it has radio written all over it. Coincidentally, it’s like the only track without any cuss words. Great party music sure to please the masses.
