Piece and Love
Invisible
This CD has been sitting on my desk for a while now. Often I’ve put it in my CD player, rocked out for about three-quarters of an hour, and been left with nothing to write about. This has nothing to do with the quality of the music; it has more to do with the quality of the writer. How can I put into words the feeling I get when I listen to this?
People have told me that they feel that something is an OK piece of art if it entertains, a good piece of an art if it challenges, and a great piece of art if it does. While I don’t agree, I think that this is very fitting for the CD in question. There is a lot of subtle manipulation (of music, not the listener!) during this album, but it is presented in a very accessible format.
Piece and Love is a “rocky” CD. Not guitar-bass-drums rocky, but driving, powerful, loud rocky. The tools are sampled, sequenced drums by Martin Atkins, and occasional accompaniment by perhaps figureheads of the Invisible roster. The vocals are sometimes spoken, rapped and screamed, with Chin doing most of the composition, recording, and instrumentation. The CD is bookended by an 11+ minute long remix by Subgenius. If this doesn’t get airplay on mainstream “modern rock” station, then there really is something wrong.
