The Mother Hips

The Mother Hips

Orange Recordings

There’s two songs on this 7-inch, and both are well-crafted. Side A is “Third Floor Story,” which allows the Mother Hips show off their funky, blues roots. I can imagine this song being part of a 10-minute improv jam session. Too bad you can only fit like 4 and a half minutes on one side of a 7-inch. Side B has an entirely different flavor. I’m gonna call it country music; but not this country music you see on TNN. It reminds me of what an old Appalachian folk song probably sounded like in the early pioneering days. Pretty smooth stuff.
