I love this band. A pop/punk dream – like the progeny of some long forgotten, drunken coupling of the Buzzcocks and Cheap Trick. I’m not sure who to compare them to, but fans of Blink 182, Goo Goo Dolls, or Foo Fighters would probably also like Tsar. They remind me a lot of a band called Size 14, who I also loved but have no idea what happened to. Maybe this is them in disguise? The record isn’t flawless, but most cuts are fantastic and several are simply awe-inspiring. My favorites are the opener, “Calling All Destroyers,” as well as “Silver Shifter” and “MONoSTEReo,” which I absolutely, utterly adore! They’re currently out polishing their arena-rock moves on tour with Duran Duran. I expect big things from these youngsters.
