Kenny Howes

The Right Idea

Second Heaven

The Right Idea gathers together tracks from Kenny Howes’ first three (out of print) albums. All three sit somewhere in my collection, which makes me feel like a complete obscurist. Is Kenny doomed to be known only to reclusive critics and connoisseurs of fine pop? Not if there’s any justice in the world – his fine sense of melody and honed lyrical style make for music that’s substantial yet instantly likeable. Listening to selections from Drawing heavily from British Invasions (I hear a lot of Kinks here…) and American Counter-revolutions. All my faves – “Thought You’d Never Go,” “Girls With Glasses,” “Let Me In” – are here, plus twenty minutes of hallucinatory outtakes. Impressive! This is gotta-have pop.
