The Swingin’ Neckbreakers

The Return of Rock

Telstar

When you say Swingin’ Neckbreakers, I think CBGB’s. I think of lead man and bassist Tom Jorgensen standing stock still in front of the stage, bellowing into the microphone and basically daring anyone to come onstage and see what the band’s name is all about, grease-spot. The Return of Rock cannot quite capture the feeling of that show, but putting it on the stereo and twisting the knob clockwise can make for a substitute in a pinch. This is full-on rock and roll, where two chords are company and three’s a crowd. Bashing through fourteen tracks, the ‘Nex stop at nothing, from the screaming “Definition of Love” to the panty raid theme song “Stop Drop Wiggle.” The near-closing “So Good” makes a bold statement through a chord arrangement that any Ramones fan can understand, a stomping beat, and beautifully inane lyrics.
