Hesher

Hesher

Hesher, Queens-native Chip Love, is a genre-hopper in the highest degree and a soulful addition to the rap-rock canon. In fact, the rap-rock moniker would do this relaxed recording renegade a great disservice, due to the fact that Hesher respectfully flirts with new wave, hardcore punk, classic pop, and acoustic balladry with reckless abandon, and has a rugged soulfulness conspicuously absent from the today’s troupes of guitar n’ turntable thwompers. With assistance from high-profile pals Everlast, N’Dea Davenport, Chino Moreno, and members of Cibo Matto and Bad Brains, the star-studded musical grab-bag Self-Titled Debut sounds like the hook-laden rock equivalent of the Handsome Boy Modeling School record. But unlike the progressive work of Handsome Boy, Self Titled Debut doesn’t have the insistence of masterminds attempting to flip the script of the rock-rap landscape, just the gentle buzz of laid-back treat that should provide a satisfying placebo for anyone awaiting the next Everlast record or a creatively subdued alternative to Sevendust’s wavering blurt.
